Vampires, but for real this time!

While I was attending the Arcadia Institute in Helsinki, Finland, one of my course assignments was to create an original artwork. So, having never written any sort of story before, I wrote a short film!

It followed a young doctor with a thurst for blood due to a medical condition that we was born with. The reason that I thought of the idea was simply because at the time of year in January, when the snow piled high and the temperature reached negative 40 degrees Celsius, I thought that the red colour of blood really stood out on the snowy ground and so this had to be some sort of horror.

I wrote out the 20 page script in one night and presented it to my classmates the day following and, low and behold, they loved it and we were making a movie! I took the role of writer, director and editor since editing was really my favorite thing and I gathered a crew and actors quite easily! They we all other traveling student who were all thrilled to get involved.

It really was an eye opening experience as I was able to see first hand the work that goes into organizing a project like that. There were so many moving parts between locations to find, props, fighting choreography and communicating it all across the whole crew took some getting used to.

This all has really helped me later in life, not only in working in film industry, but with just day to day tasks a goals.

We shot over a two week period and edited for another in Archadas great facilities and we had a movie. We made it just in time for the end of the semester in May and I recieved top marks for our efforts. As a celebration for the project we held a viewing in the student union building on a big screen and showed our 15 min production in front of 50+ students and faculty, some of whom were featured.
