Ice fields, candy churches and poofy hats

When they offer you a boat trip for $30 to go to St. Petersburg, you have to take it! 6 Irish lads in Helsinki, Finland and we had the opportunity to travel via ferry to nearby St Petersburg. The ferry would take 12 hours, each way, through sheets of ice on frozen seas. The trip itself was only 8 hours but a chance to see the far eastern city of Russia and it's candy-topped churches and snowy streets.

We arrived at a cold grey port and channel through massive industrial port cranes and billowing oil tankers, while a dence fog surrounded the ship. It's actually started snowing almost the moment we got there as we were treated by two men fishing from one of the ice sheets that we were about to crash our way though, but it didn't seem to phase them! They sat and barely moved and eyelid to watch us crash our way by

At one point I saw a limo, with flags flying from the headlights, being escorted by a squad of SUVs which just eemed like a movie scene. The city is absolutely beautiful with a rich and nearly warming yellow/orange glow
