SOFAR_ON_TOUR, what a night! The event was held on a really blindingly bright day in early September in Gallery 881 in Vancouver’s East side. I got there early for sound check to meet everyone there and set up my equipment for the video shoot later on. This was great because I got to talk to Leo De Johnson and her crew! I was outside shooting some external shots when they pulled up in their van. They were all buzzing because this was the first gig of a series of gigs lined up all along the west coast of the US.

After a few words from the gallery’s owner the lights went down and we kicked off with Leo rocking out some of her own tracks. Check out the video I got of her track In my bed. She had such a presence on stage that was impossible to look away from Honestly, so captivating, what an amazing performer!

After that was the amazingly talented Jayza from Portland, Oregon. A trained opera singer and true artist she had such an amazing voice. It’s not every day you hear such talent and she held everyone to silence while she sang. Her emotion personality were so full and warm. Check out my video of her track So Caught Up on my vimeo page. After the show we had an extra special experience when both Jayza and her mother sang together in a soulful duet, both had absolutely incredible voices and were so beacons of joy and talent.

The last act of the night was Mauvery. Honestly it was such a pleasure to see his artistry and devotion to the craft. Firstly by his vibrant and colorful style stood out, you just knew by the look of him that he was going to be good. But, even at soundcheck, he was so deep into his music and knew exactly what he needed to do to give his crowd a good show. During his performance i remember thinking that he put the same effort into this intimate crowd of 40/50 as if he were performing for 50,000! His music style was mixed between rap, RnB and spoken-word and he fused it all together with a smooth flow and a great set of singing pipes!
